Museo del Prado, Madrid: Francisco de Goya decorated the walls of his villa, the Quinta del Sordo, with the fourteen 'black paintings', which by and large are the most sickening images he ever painted. Having survived, he not only gave himself to realising hellish visions, but chose to do so in a form that left him surrounded by them.
