Jessica Simpson started singing when she was very young. At age 12 she auditioned for the Mickey Mouse Club along with Britney Spears, Justin Timberlake, JC Chasez and Christina Aguilera. But after hearing Christina audition before her, Jessica lost her nerve when it was her time to audition. She just froze.
But her father, Joe Simpson, a minister at the time recognised Jessica's singing talent and got her to sing in church in lead vocals. Which lead to Jessica aged 17 recording her first gospel album under her father's management.
It wasnt until late 1999 that Jessica's music career started to take off. Tommy mottola, Mariah Carey's ex husband and manager of Columbia Records, was impressed with Jessica's powerful voice and signed her onto his label straight away.
